Low Carbon Footprint How Can We Help Your Business?

Submitted by: Justin Ott

Why are UK businesses facing increasing pressure to cut their carbon emissions? Find out what the government intends to do next and how certain airport transfer companies can help.

It is a fact. Some taxi firms could help your business cut its carbon footprint. There have been companies looking to achieve similar objections for the last 6 years. We believe that we are all striving for the same thing. A sensible approach to actively lowering carbon output from taxi travel.

Over the next year we will be looking at improving our service offering carbon windows to offset carbon credits and cost when travelling at green time zones to and from airports. This could be linked by estimated traffic or the time of day travelling.

Our biggest client saved 125kg of carbon between January and March 2012 by using our low-carbon vehicles, and has so far saved 655kg of carbon as of August 2012.

But why is it so important for UK firms and organisations to switch to low-carbon alternatives, not just for their Stansted Airport taxi runs but in all areas?

In November 2008, the Labour government’s Climate Change Bill put new emphasis on UK businesses to find ways to cut their carbon footprint.

The bill set out a legally binding target for an 80% cut in six greenhouse gases by 2050 (based on 1990 levels).

While global warming has many causes, it is widely accepted that carbon dioxide along with other heat-trapped gases have contributed to a rise in temperature on the Earth’s surface.

The former administration also introduced a legally binding carbon budget, which set a target cap for the amount of greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere.

A few months later, the government set out a requirement for a 34% cut in carbon emissions by 2020.

While there is (at present) no legal obligation for UK businesses to adopt carbon-cutting measures, they are being actively encouraged to adopt as many measures as possible, to help the government reach its target.

The process of becoming more environmentally focussed is called adaption, and that is where they could not only save you money without scrimping on service, but help the environment as well.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) is the British government department responsible for implementing the National Adaption Programme.

The first programme will be published in 2013 and will focus specifically on helping businesses, local authorities and civil society to become more resilient to climate change impacts.

One of its main aims will be to “develop a clear business case so that businesses can see how the changing climate could affect their bottom line and the likely return on investments”.

Using certain airport transfer companies for your business travel needs is an easy way to kick-start the adaption process, which will no doubt hit the headlines with increasing vigour in the New Year.

With just under a quarter of all UK carbon emissions linked to the use of surface transportation, switching could be a decision that preserves both your travel budget and Mother Nature.
